Pokémon opening & languages & cultures in common

So yes, instead of preparing the presentation I will hold tomorrow, I'm doing very useful stuff: listening to anime songs of my childhood in different languages, mainly the ones I "know". Quite productive, yeah... How beautiful is sharing a common culture! Which one do you like the most monsieurs?

Spanish (Spain):

English:

Swedish:

French:

Catalan:

Spanish (America):

German:

P.D.  The Digimon song, btw, has two versions: the cool one (German, Spanish) and the awkward one (French, Swedish for instance)

Thought of the week (V): About names (II)

Easy question: in order to be president of the U.S., must one have a stupid name when you come to think about it?

I was talking with... someone, definitely, about when I discovered that "Dick" Cheney was a name (I told you guys here) when... this someone pointed out something I didn't think about:

BILL Clinton.

Hum... is a good thought, isn't it?

George BUSH

The freak is this?

Well, let me say that in Spain right now is very famous Ana Botella, Anne Bottle when I talk to friends (in Spanish)

The whole speech sucks sooo much that has been trending topic in Spain for days!! Amazing, huh? Anyway,  the best part of the speech (and the TT) has definitely been the "having a relaxing cup of café con leche in Plaza Mayor" (1:40 in the video). Actually I already showed you that part in the previous post. There are many many jokes about it... but well, I guess I will do a reference to the previous post in this blog, and put you a whole bunch of Spanish expressions LITERALLY translated into English. LITERALLY. Please, don't forget it:

So what's the conclusion I come up with? Well, that I guess I won't care so much about names from now on. Do you do?

By the way, even if you don't care and it's not like I enjoy talking about myself here, I feel like I must say that I've been admitted to the Swedish B2.2 level here in Barcelona, which is more than I actually expected (and actually more than what I was said). I'm so happy! So guess, I'll try to recover a little bit my level in that beautiful language. Now it's time to find a French teacher!

Why do I tell you this? Do you actually care? It's not like I say many people... hum, nearly anyone that I write this blog, I just do it to have fun and learn. It's not like I like telling you my life here either (for instance I don't talk about the nice bike excursion I will do next we... oh, shit!) Nah, you understand. But if you somehow read me... Well, then just look forward to seeing some posts in any of these languages now! haha. As a very good friend of mines says: this is great.

This post is the milk!

But what the milks? Provided that it's been a couple of months since I wrote here for the last time, I guess I should have plenty of topics to choose in order to come back here with style! For instance, this summer I had again a super nice experience with white courtains in the UK like the ones in Sweden... However, I find myself about to talk to you about milk! But what milks have I done with my life? I used to had style here in my dear blog...

Milk! Have I said hello? Hello!!! Long time no see you!

So. Last year in Sweden... hum, two years ago, in Sweden (wait, I have to leave you a sec and cry) (...) (Ok guys, I'm back) As I was saying, it was one year and a half ago when I talked from time to time with my very appreciated German friend Jonas about expressions in our respective languages. And it turns out that those conversations clearly inspired the idea for this post, so I write this in memorial of such discussions. The milk! How much I miss them!

THE MILK - Spanish C2++++ level lessons

But what's milk here in Spain? That white liquid that many of us drink in the mornings? Well, you should know that there is nothing quite like eeeh...  relaxing cup of café con leche!!! (coffee with... milk) (in Plaza Mayor)

But this is not the point. Well yes, it is, milk is what it is and that's milk. But Spanish milk is this and... much more! Let me introduce you all the meanings I can think about the word "milk". Sorry for the messy translations. I actually find these expressions quite hard to translate, I hope that they make sense at least.

Go at all milk (Spanish: ir a toda leche) -> Go very fast, at full speed.
Go shitting milks (Vete cagando leches) -> Leave as fast as you can. e.g. "You bastard, go shitting milks from here if you don't wanna die!"
I shit in the milk (me cago en la leche) -> A way of cursing. e.g. "I lost the plane! I shit in the milk! What do I do now?"
Not whatever nor milks (ni lo que sea ni leches) -> Not whatever nor any other stupidity you might say. Used when we don't want to accept sthg someone says. "Have you cleaned your room?" "No" "Why?" "Well, I had to procrastinate..." "Not procrastinating nor milks! Clean your room now"
The milk of [introducenoun] (La leche de [introducirsustantivo]) -> A huge bunch of [introducenoun]
And one milk! (¡Y una leche!) -> No way! e.g. "John, clean your room!" "And one milk!" (and he goes on doing whatever he was doing)
Milks! (¡leches!)-> Fuck! Expresses complaint.
Milk! (¡leche!) -> Oh god! Expresses amazement
The milk! (¡la leche!) -> What the...?!/ The fuck!   Expresses surprise or lament. Slightly different from the previous one, though still it makes no sense at all. To be more accurate: the milk of non sense.
This is the milk (Esto es la leche) -> This is very cool. e.g. Word of chu is the milk
To give yourself a milk (Darse una leche) -> To crash (e.g. with your car), to fall (e.g. to the floor). Normally in a very cruel, gore and spectacular way. e.g. He gave himself a milk with his car.
To give milks to each other (Darse de leches) -> To hit each other, to punch each other. e.g. They gave milks to each other and ended up with a very funny purple face.
He has very bad milk (Él tiene muy mala leche) -> He is really bad tempered.
What a bad milk you have! (¡Qué mala leche que tienes!) -> What an arse hole you are! What very bad intentions you have!
You are the milk! (Eres la leche) -> You're super cool! / You're super nice! e.g. David is the milk of guy. And very humble too.

We have 15 meanings!! That's the milk of meanings!! Any more suggestions? I'm open minded, it's been a long time since I last wrote here but you should not have forgotten that I'm a guy of the milk! haha

Hope you can use them! And I mean in English haha!  (I did it very seldom in Sweden, but it was so funny) This was the milk of post, wasn't it?!  Write you soon!

A relaxing cup of café con leche in "La plaza Mayor" in Madrid

P.D. Ok, this post might have to do with the absolute trending topic this week in Spain: the speech of Ana Botella, "Ana Bottle" amongst friends (bottle of milk), to the International Olympic Committee. She's the mayor of Madrid... and the protagonist of the couple of videos I've put here today. The perfect proof of how much we Spaniards suck at English. And oh yes, I have many more proofs than just this!

(¡Buen provecho!)

Comprehending the utility of white curtains

And I will explain myself.

What I feel like a quite stupid habit in Europe is not having blinds at all in the rooms of any building. I mean: in summer blinds do not disturb in any way (you just put them up and done), and while you sleep they help to make your room darker. Since in summer there are more hours of light but sleeping is not a very illuminated job, it kind of makes sense to me having blinds to darken your room. Doesn't it?

"Oh, but we have curtains to avoid the light to come in"

Hmm, I don't really know what to answer to that. Because what I'm experiencing is that a very common thing is that curtains in rooms are white, and I can say that I'm quite aware of the utility of white curtains: none. Why do I say this in such a radical way? Simple reason: because when I arrived last year to Sweden, I was waking up at 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 o'clock in the morning just because the curtains did not avoid at all the entrance of light in the room. Therefore finally I went to Ikea (the independent republic, you know) and bought one curtain with one of the darkest tones I found. Every night I unfolded such a curtain and put it over the white curtain I had. Then in the morning, I folded it back again and... done!

My Swedish room, one random morning. With the dark blue curtain still protecting me from the evil light. And a cool Swedish flag, just in case you didn't realize about it.
Now I'm back in Spain, living in a city as Barcelona. And I have blinds, yes. Which do not work very well, there are some spots where the light can come in. So I have to use the curtain too. And guys, guess which kind of curtains I have to use.

White white, pure white. Peeeeace!
You were brilliantly right! How the hell can this be understood? What should I do now?

Very deep dilemmas haha. I'll try to take a piece of advice from my bed. If the white curtain lets me sleep, of course.

*It's not that I don't like light, on the contrary! But what it's true is that I like darkness when it comes to sleeping.

Stockholm memories - Amaral

I'm alive. Though you may not believe it. I'm having a very busy but cool month living with my cousin, her husband and their three 8-10-12 year aged boys. Very very cool. In a few days I'll be moving to a new place, and there I guess I will settle a little bit and start writing here one more time. One never knows though.

But today I'm feeling like "I miss Stockholm". So let's rewind a year! Do you mind?

Sorry, can't listen to you happy readers haha. One of the cool things of Stockholm is that it is a big city, with all the events associated that such a condition implies. So, the thing is that around a year ago, on June 1st, we went to an Amaral concert organized by the Spanish embassy in a pub in Stockholm, Södra Teatern. Don't know if you know Amaral, she's a very famous Spanish singer who composes lyrics which go deep into your heart, and that I really like (at least is among my most beloved Spanish singers). Particularly I recommend "Son mis amigos" (They're my friends), "Revolución" (Revolution), "Toda la noche en la calle" (All night long in the streets) and the most famous one, "El Universo sobre mí" (The Universe over me). She's from Saragossa, my hometown. The cool thing is that I knew about these concert of hers in Stockholm, but didn't say a word to anyone. And I remember that my beloved Lilianna, who didn't know Amaral at all, said about going to this concert. For me, it was like "oh wow, very cool" and "they're lucky"

The concert was great. Amaral didn't say a word in English, and just "tack!" (thanks) in Swedish. But it was great. I particularly remember one song Amaral played, the last song of the concert, the "extra" song. It's not the song I appreciate the most of Amaral. But... The lyrics totally made sense there in Stockholm. It was somehow overwhelming... and now that I've moved to Barcelona, these lyrics make again sense for me.

So here you have the song, and a translation of it. Hope you enjoy it!

If I were born again, if I could start over,
I would search for you again on my time machine.
Destiny is what leads and guides us,
comes between us and brings us together throughout life.

We said goodbye to each other and the years passed,
we saw each other again one Saturday night...
another country, another city, another life,
 but the same feline glance.

Sometimes I'd kill you, and others I want to eat you up instead,
 little aquamarine eyes.

CHORUS
What can I say, if every part of my mind is yours
and if I can't find the exact word, what can I say.
How to tell you that you've won me over little by little
you who arrived by coincidence, what can I say.

Like a fire bird that dies in your hands,
a sliver of ice melted on your lips,
the radio keeps on playing; the war has ended,
but the bonfires still haven't died down.

 CHORUS [repeats]
What can I say, if every part of my mind is yours
and if I can't find the exact word, what can I say.
How to tell you that you've won me over little by little
you who arrived by coincidence, what can I say.

you're taking away my life, what can I say...

This is me, by the way. With Eva Amaral.
EDIT: (June 8th) I've just found a video of the concert there in Stockholm. I link it here and here, with a very special Portuguese voice singing along haha. Very cool!

Thought of the week (IV): About names

Last week I discovered one amazing thing, while talking about Dick Cheney:

Have you ever thought your name to be "dick"?

In Spanish, we definitely don't have that. We can make awkward sentences by combining names and surnames, but... no, we don't have such a direct name as "dick"

You can imagine my astonishment when I realized about this. But happily, I investigated (it was too bizarre that anyone could name his son "Dick" and that be accepted as normal) And I found out that "Dick" actually is a nickname. Dick Cheney real name is Richard "Dick" Bruce Cheney. Why its sobriquet is "dick", do not ask me because I don't know.

But look to his face...

I'm too sexy for myself (too sexy for my body, too sexy...)

Shorts

I've always said that one of the wonders of writing short stories is that you can cause a bigger impression in the reader, the unexpected is easier to create. At least to innovate. I'm not quite a big fan of shorts, but I guess that it happens the same than with short stories.

Today I've seen some of them, and I liked them all, particularly "The butterfly circus". So, if you have time, I guess it is worth it to watch these short movies: (the links go to Filmaffinity)

- The butterfly circus: 20', English (with Eng "youtube" sub). The best I'm linking. Talks about overcoming and being positive. Very cool.
- L'Accordeur (The piano tuner): 11', French (with Eng sub). I really like the effect that achieves. And I'm not gonna say anything else, you'll have to check it on your own (wink, wink)
- True. Paris, je t'aime (faubourg saint denis): 7', English and French, no sub (the French is easy to understand... I've understood it at least! And although I have some idea, I really suck at French, so if you have some knowledge, it's not hard!! Otherwise look for the subs, I've not done it hehe) It's about love, but in a different way.

THE BUTTERFLY CIRCUS

L'ACCORDEUR (THE PIANO TUNER)

TRUE. PARIS, JE T'AIME

And well, I finally will say that some of you might like "Schneckentraum (El sueño del caracol) (Snail's dream)" (German, Spa sub... but look for it) I found it VERY typical and not surprising, but it's sweet. Particularly the Amaral music part it's just awesome...

Be happy!

The "give back 1 €cent" news

Quite a messy week... but since I'm moving to Barcelona, I guess quite understandable!! Anyway, as I don't know if you're quite interested about this, I will be quite direct from now on: do you like non sense news?

Because I loooove (love love) absurd news. They provide a funny topic to talk about, and allow you to break a bit the speaking topics routine. Who doesn't know the Belgian driver who went to Zagreb by error? (REALLY, if you don't know it, the story is completely worth it,  WAY FUNNIER than it is this [great] blog post in fact)

When we Spaniards travel abroad, we many times see things well done. In such cases, we tend to say something like "Spain is different", because here these things are done differently. Normally when we see well done things, ye. And now, I'm gonna cry for a minute, wait.

Done. So. This news I'm gonna talk about today (Spanish URL, srry) will allow you to understand this "different Spain" (you can put again this post in the category "spot the differences" I'm doing lately) Because dear readers, this news I'm gonna translate you today is the "1 eurocent story"

Visualize it, ok?
Spanish state claims for a cent which had been overpaid to unemployed woman

In the claim letter, she was reminded that if she didn't pay to the bank before a month passed, she would have to pay an extra 20% fee

A young woman from Tortosa has been involved in a bureaucratic mess because she had been paid one extra cent than corresponding to her unemployment benefit.

Following the common procedure in such situations, she received a registered letter claiming the devolution of this extra cent. "When I read it, "- she says - "not only I discovered the state requiring me this cent that, btw, I hadn't realized; but I also was said that if I didn't pay it back in one month, I would have to pay an extra 20% fee over this cent"

The letter also explained her that after this voluntary refunding period she hadn't done it, it would start the enforced recovery process as stated in the article 32/2 of the royal decree 625/1985.

But this wasn't the end of the process for this cent, because this woman had to go to the employment office to give evidence that this debt was already paid off.

"But once there, I was said that without a previous appointment, I could not give any receipt nor do anything", so she had to come back other day to solve the problem.

"I guess this is the normal procedure for this matters" - she concludes - "but something must not been working right in this system if they need to spend a probably higher amount of money for asking back a sad cent"

Asterix and the 12 tasks. Do you remember this one?

Thought of the week (III): About supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Or the equivalent "Supercalifragilisticoexpialidoso" (Spanish)

And the Thought of the week iiiis: why is so cool "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" written in Telugu?

I know, I know, you can't withstand anymore, you NEED to know it, you NEED to know how is written the Telugu's way.

Resist a bit more!
Here you are Chu's readers, just for you, in premiere:

(aka "Super calligraphy fragile is it cold is pale dojo" There's no other way the translator could get it!)

And that's what I was talking about last Friday night with a friend! Isn't life great?(then I was so tired that I went soon to bed, but that's other story lalala)

And besides, I had the chance of knowing the Telugu language for the first time, and inform myself about it. Quite interesting, in fact. From several India's regions, it's the 13-15th most spoken language in the world, and I had never heard about it. And therefore, I share it with you... in the way I found it.

P.D. Julia's version: నేను ఫ్రా గిల్ కు సూపర్ సి ఆధ్యాత్మికం ఆహారం మీరు సి లేదా ఏమి కాబట  (aka "super c al i fra gil is ti c o espi ali do so", or lazy version name it as you want) (Special prize to the one who spots the 7 differences among them!!!!)

The Shrike. And the shrike.

Have you read Hyperion? No? Then you should! One of the best science fiction stories I've read, if not the best (though that's a hard thing to say) Yes, you read it? Then you know the Shrike, our dear friend the Shrike:

"Uuuuuuh"
One definitely feels respect for him. The Shrike.

Yesterday afternoon I was playing to a trivial game for Android, and I was asked what a meridional shrike was: a reptile, a bird, a fish or a mammal. What would have you said? Provided the first image, what would have you said? Just guessing, I thought "ok David, this is gonna be most likely a reptile"

No! No, it wasn't!

What is it then? What have you guessed guys?

What a shrike actually is... this:

"Uuuuuuh (?)"

WTF???????????

... and this is how a myth falls down...

Origami! (Éric Joisel exposition)

On Friday evening I had the chance to attend a very cool exposition whose topic was... yeah, your guess was correct, origami! Although I still don't know how you made this guessing... Never mind haha. Having a friend very keen on origami (greets Guillermo!), and being my hometown Saragossa seat of the first origami association created in the whole Europe, there is an origami exposition there (until June 2nd) And so, I went there with the already mentioned Guillermo, and mister Alex Beltrán.

And oh yes, it was totally worth it, very very cool. That cool that I am sharing it with you. The exposition consisted of a first floor with three quite impressive rooms focused on sea, earth and air  (highlight the paper tunnel with stalactites, various holes and toilette paper) (not because of the toilette paper, he) There was a vid on how they made the rooms (specifically for this exposition) and trust me, it was amazing the amount of time... and space that required it. Then, there was a second floor, with a compilation of different pieces made out by Éric Joisel, a guy who was incredibly good at this (just have a look below) and who has an incredibly sad story I'm not really keen on talking about, sorry people.

Hope you enjoy it!

I have no pics of the paper tunnel. But this is the air room. All of these are filled with air, and as the room has also a ventilator so all of this is kind of moving smoothly.

NOT recommended readings (at all)

Buf. Or... I don't really know how to describe the feeling I had when yesterday afternoon I eventually finished the books 1 & 2 of 1Q84, by Haruki Murakami. I will read the third one of the saga, but I must admit that I definitely understand why the first and the second books are sold altogether: the first one is such a boulder, such an indigestible piece of shit that if it had come out separated from the second book (where actually happens something, and that something it's ok), no one would continue reading the saga. Unless you're a fanatic, of course. Or as stubborn as I am when reading is concerned, hehe. Don't worry, I'll make a review of the whole thing when I come to its end. Now I guess I can say I'll be able to make it! (trust me, I almost leave the reading of this. Buf. Indigestible first book, yeah)

"How to become a SON OF A BITCH" - Spanish book. "Son of a bitch" the worst thing you can say anyone in Spanish, is like being a really, really bad person. Why this? If you look closely, you'll see how the cover is "empty" in the "son of a bitch" letters, so as when someone is sunbathing you can place the cover on his back. And I'll let you guess the rest of the story...
And I was thinking, that maybe I could do my best to prevent you from reading some of the most unreadable things I've ever put my eyes on. TVW. The Very Worst. Things that you're not gonna be able even to swallow, or that if you do, you'll think about them in one in two ways: as a drama or as a comedy. TVW. Today some of them, other day another bunch to complete this. And someday, an extra: a masterpiece, the most inconsistent ever written thing (although very entertaining)

* ATTENTION: I mainly talk about what happens in the first chapters of the books, so there are not big spoilers. But some of you could think that, so I'm not responsible for it. Although, truth to be said, do yourselves a favour and don't ever read these books, there is pretty good stuff over there to be read.

ELIJAH'S CHAIR (Igor Štiks):

Chapter 1: "Hello, I am mister blabla and I'm going to commit suicide. Let me explain you why". Then, 300 pages where nothing quite interesting happens in the Sarajevo of the 90's war, which is actually quite disappointing (come on! It's a very good place where one can place a story!) But out of curiosity, one goes on reading: why does he want to commit suicide? One wants to know the reason. Last chapter: "So guys, this is the reason why I am going to commit suicide". Reason? What reason? There was a reason? Where? Did I miss it? Or was that a reason? Ok, reason... define reason, man.  Because I simply can't believe that a person commits suicide just because of the reason stated in the book.

So, you have 300 pages of a book that are boring and besides that provide a reason (ye, I can't avoid using italics...) that you can't believe. At all. Mesdames et messieurs, there you have: a book not to be read. Fortunately, it is short. Not like our next friend.

Although it is very interesting to know what an Elijah's chair is.

THE INNER CIRCLE (Brad Meltzer):

It turns out that I keep track of the books I read in somewhat of a short review plus a grade. It's kind of useful I think to remember things, compare them and give recommendations, but that's not the point now. The point is what I wrote for this "The Inner Circle" book when I read it, as I see it as funny (and being in English, I can share it with you!!!)

- The Inner Circle (mystery [english] - Hey! My name is Beecher, I'm really annoying. This is the history of how the strangest and most unbelievable events happen to me and how I stupidly react. My writer smokes good stuff by the way - 0)

And when I say unbelievable, I mean unbelievable. Particularly, I would place the first one hundred pages in the "genius" level of unbelievable-ness. How can one author dare to plot something in the US National Archive, find in the room reserved to the President (?) inside the leg of a chair (?) because they drop on it a cup of coffee(?) a book which they believe (?) belonged to Lincoln and the best thing which comes to their mind is deciding to flee (?) from there? How can one author think this book is good acceptable? (the first word was way too much for this) What if I tell you that they get into that room to impress a woman? (oh man! I've been so many years completely mistaken!)  Or what if I tell you that the protagonist is such a big paranoid that you hate him from the very beginning? That there are some kind of sects involved? And if I tell you that these are not the only unbelievable things? (at all, this is just the peak of the iceberg, the premise from where the book starts building an unbelievable plot)

I don't know what I was thinking about when I bought this book. But what I really would like to know is how the hell did I end up this book. Please, DO NOT read it. Otherwise, you will do have a real reason to commit suicide.

You know how it is. Now you can avoid it.
H.P. LOVECRAFT:

Booooring. What an author! Before I said I am stubborn when I read. Ok, I didn't finish the book when I read this guy, and he's supposed to write like this always (I've talked with many friends about this). I had a book with four short stories (around 80 pages each). I read two, and started the third. Enough. 80 pages per story where NOTHING happens are just too much for me if I do it thrice.

I mean, let me give an example. One story I read. They go to the South Pole, where there are footprints of something. They follow the footprints into a mountain. And then they listen to a noise, a very very frightening noise, so they run away. The end.

I still don't get where the meaning of this history is, or what the hell is trying to transmit. The second one I read was like this. And the third one seemed one more time the same, so I just desisted. Man, try at least to transmit I don't know, something. Even if you are really bad at that (*see "Elijah's Chair" and "The Inner Circle", just above), please, do something.

Incoming: "The works of Persiles and Segismunda" (Miguel de Cervantes), "The fourth realm" (Françesc Miralles), "Star Wars: the new order Jedi: agents of chaos I" (James Luceno). I will write about good books too, don't worry. I just write this just in case, so as you already know what you should avoid.

3:20 am: How things shouldn't be done (aka how things are done in Spain)

This post is set to be published at 3:20 am, on Saturday while I'm in Tarragona (where I don't have Internet access). That is, people, I can'T control whatever is going on here! But doing this makes kind of sense, just to understand what I was done last week.  It's a vindicatory hour. So I'm guessing, I should provide you with some context, don't you agree? (Not accepting "no, I'm not interested at all David. Shut up" as an answer, sorry. I can't listen to you. Remember, I'm in Tarragona, happy without Internet!!!)

Ok, before I get completely crazy lalala. Beyond my usual limit I mean. I have to talk today about my personal life, hope you enjoy it a little bit. So, three weeks ago or so, I attended to a meeting where they explained what the Mars Spanish Mission 0 is, (there is a translate select below in the page at right) and they were asking for volunteers to join them. Keen on astronomy, and with the knowledge and permission of my boss in the internship I'm doing, I applied, since I thought the topic was very cool and might let me vary for a while and work in astronomy related with telecom's.

What do they wanna do? There will be a simulation mission, the Mars Spanish Mission 1 (MSM1), which will simulate some experiments which might take place in Mars when they send a manned mission over there (aka never). Mars Spanish Mission 0 (MSM0) is kind of an "informal" preparation for the MSM1. And what they needed were people for different teams which will work in different areas.

Monegros desert, Saragossa province. Here is were they wanna make the experiments I told you. Actually it's a very nice desert... and it was a forest 2000 years ago (supposedly)
If you are interested in astronomy (as I am), sounds cool huh? So, as I was very interested, I applied and I said I had preference in some groups which had to do with telecom's. They were supposed to answer back and say something on Wed March 20th, as people needed to start doing things the week of the 25th -> 31st. I didn't receive anything, it was alright. But then, on March 26th, at 3:20am (?), I received an e-mail offering me a position supposedly not related with my professional field (??) (telecommunications). And I HAD to answer before 12:00 am of... March, 26th. (???????????????) WHAT? You crazy guys, is that even serious?!?!?!? What if I didn't check the e-mail? Or what? No need to mention the delay from March 20th to the 26th... (but here I wanna think I was kind of the third or fourth choice and when people said no they asked me)

To make a long story short ("David, can you do that? No, you kidding"), I read the e-mail at 11:30 am and  I even didn't answer (although I thought about it until the night). And lucky them (and me?) that I didn't answer, because I'm guessing I could have been very mean in the answer (don't worry, normally I'm just annoying) More than mean, kind of sarcastic if I know myself properly haha. Whatever.

So, this is one example of how things may be done here. 3:20am to be answered at 12am with a delay of 6 days for a position you didn't say you wanted to do. Brilliant, an applause please. I might be repeating myself, but the fact is that I still don't get it, nor some of my friends, sorry. Does it make sense?

Nah. I guess someday I'll speak of the "Vuelva usted mañana" (Please, come back tomorrow) or about the few times I got angry last year in Sweden (guess? Ye, all of them had to do with happy Spaniards)

And I wanna finish with this: I wish you the best of the lucks MSM0 guys (but, with me, you were not professional at all, and I'm really sorry about that)

Thought of the week (II) : 'händerna mot himlen' and planes

This year I'm kind of following Swedish music and Swedish hits from here, which is kind of hard and from time to time a bit misleading too. Whatever. I actually love one of them (among others), "händerna mot himlen", by Petra Marklund. The translation of the title would be something like "The hands towards the sky". And I really like the song, particularly when the chorus arrives it makes me feel well (actually if you know the lyrics, the chorus is the actual positive part of the song). Well, in fact the chorus doesn't say hands towards the sky but something slightly different, but who cares lalala.  Here you are, the song:

And the thought? It came to my mind when I was in the plane to Paris, and actually they were two thoughts:

- If you are in a plane and you have to raise your hands towards the sky, where the hell do you point them? Towards the floor of the plane? Maybe above your head? Just in front of you? Or where?

- I think this song is somehow positive and it actually makes me feel well. But in a plane, provided the first thought I had, is it optimistical or actually a quite depressive song? If you have to point towards the floor, that's not quite a good sign, isn't it?

Very hard reflexions I had to deal with, as you see. Hopefully someone can help me. It'd be very appreciated.

Folding helmets!

Yei, good idea isn't it?

Two weeks ago I had a group dynamic (or whatever it is said in English) for a job selection process. When I asked Saúl, one of my very beloved friends, what you're asked to do in this processes, he told me that one of the few things you can actually "prepare" is to bring a commercial idea and be able to defend it in front of the others. I guess it has more to do with what he studied, but well, it was not so hard so I just thought something. What? Keep on reading, keep on.

Two weeks ago as well, there was some kind of "polemic" here with a new law to be argued in Spain (Although I felt it was more a "let's say this and let's see how people react"). This law would aim to enforce cyclists to carry a helmet on their head. Obviously, there was a strong opposition from many groups, since this would definitely decrease the number of users who take the bike.

Not, if they use a folding helmet! Muahaha, I had my brilliant idea for the group dynamic (actually I had another two very cool ones, less eccentric though) So, I dove in the Internet. And I found them!

One of the kind of foldings I've found

And this is the second common type of folding I've seen. Way worse than the first one, isn't it?

Not quite practical though... they're still too big when folded, I think. But, this is definitely a very cool first step! Don't you think so?

Biking to the infinite! I attach a very cool pic I took last Monday in my hometown, Saragossa, where the Expo 2008 (water and sustainable development) took place. The sculpture which appears in is named "Ebro's soul", and it's actually quite self-descriptive I believe: a man holding some kind of "soul" (or whatever you imagine). Ebro btw is the river which passes by Saragossa, the one which carries more water in the whole Spain. I'll show you some pics some day just to let you laugh for a while hehe)

So this is the pic I took:

Right now I can say without any doubt that this is part of my soul lalala
I actually took more pics, but this it not the point of today's post!! Furthermore I wanna re-shoot them one day it's not raining. So, as Jean-Marie, other great very beloved friend of mine has just written to me: Don't worry, be happy guys! Vi hörs!*

*This is Swedish. "We listen to eachother" could be the quite literal translation. The correct one... don't know, I'm not a native English speaker hehe.

Erasmus en Estocolmo / Stockholm

Hejhej allihopa!

¿Y Suecia?

Obelisco.
Llegando a Stockholm:

  • Industrial Management
  • Project Management: Leadership and Control
  • Modelling of Processes in Cell Biology
  • Speech Signal Processing
  • Computer Security
  • Image and Video Processing
  • Swedish 1: Elementary Level (A1/A2)
  • Swedish 2: Advanced-beginners Level (A2/B1)
  • Swedish 3: Intermediate Level (B1/B2)
  • Swedish Society, Culture and Industry in Historical Perspective

(Amigo) What are you doing at the library at this time?
(Yo) Why do you text me instead of saying hello? I'm checking transport services :-)
(Amigo) Haha. :-) It is because I have unlimited texts. And this is great.

    Muchos suecos tienen barquita...

A mí me parece espectacular.

Och...

    Vi ses i Stockholm!
    (jag hoppar!)
    Var lycklig!

    (¡Nos vemos en Stockholm! (¡Espero!) ¡Sed felices!)
    Preciosa, ¿no os parece?
